Dementia-Friendly
Communication Boards

September 2026 is Dementia Awareness Month. We support everyone's right to communicate in a way that is accessible for them. Brain changes in dementia impact communication in many ways. Communication boards use familiar words and visuals to help people living with dementia and their loved ones connect when words are hard to find.

An older man in a wheelchair points to a message on a spiral-bound communication board held by an aged care worker in navy scrubs. The board uses words and pictures to help him communicate his needs.
